Halva is a Greek and middle eastern sweet made out of ground sesame seeds, honey or sugar, and a variety of additions such as nuts and chocolate. It is usually eaten at the end of a meal with coffee or spirits, or as an energy giving snack, or during easter, at the break of a fast. It tastes like nothing else on earth, and once you have tried it you are likely to become addicted! But it is good for you - packed with magnesium and other minerals and healthy fats.
We have selected two of the best halvas in the world.
Kosmidis Drapetsonas of Piraeus have been making halva, using the same traditional recipes for over 100 years. They were actually making it and selling it from a store close to Pasalimani harbour, where Stavia's mother lived when she was growing up, and she used to walk to the store to buy the halva. The texture is out of this world. We also stock Macedonian Halva by Haitoglou brothers. Choose from the large range of flavours.
